This is a free tutorial to learn how to crochet the Tunisian Crochet Top Stitch. The tutorial has both step-by-step photos and a video tutorial.
Tunisian Crochet is such a beautiful and unique technique and it has lots of stitches that are actually very easy to crochet. The Tunisian Crochet Top Stitch is one of these stitches – easy and also lacy. It looks very similar to the Tunisian Crochet Full Stitch.
I personally have used the Tunisian Crochet Top Stitch for shawls and scarves. They create a beautiful drape and elegance. Now, I’m curious about what you will use this stitch for.
I used Premier’s Everyday Yarn and Momenti Yarn for this tutorial. Both are great choices for this stitch if you will ever try it.
Now, are you ready to learn how to crochet the Top Stitch in Tunisian Crochet?
Tunisian Crochet Stitches
Tunisian Crochet typically requires a special crochet hook. It’s either much longer than a normal crochet hook or has a cord. Furthermore, Tunisian Crochet Hooks do not come in any ergonomic style due to the way they are being used. You’ll be picking up stitches in the forward path – looks like knitting – and crocheting the stitches off in the reverse path.
But sometimes you may need a double-sided crochet hook. You can use a corded one, but those can get heavy after a while for cro-hooking. I prefer the shorter double-sided hooks for cro-hooking.
You typically do not turn in your work, so it can create some curling. But you can read here how to prevent the curl.
