Apache Tears Hat Written Instructions:
FIRSTLY, BE SURE TO SEE MY APACHE TEARS STITCH TUTORIAL, IF YOU HAVE NEVER MADE IT BEFORE. YOU CAN FIND IT HERE!
All starting chains are not counted and the first stitch of every round or row goes into the same stitch as the starting chain.
The Ribbing of the Apache tears hat needs to be according to the head size. If you have never made a hat before, please check out my tutorial HERE.
But basically, you measure the head circumference and therefore know how long the ribbing needs to be.
So, the amount of rows depends on the head circumference measurement. Below you will see the pattern for an adult hat.
Apache Tears Hat Brim
Start with the yarn color Red.
Row 1: Ch 8, 1 sc in each ch, ch 1, turn (7 sts)
Row 2-70: 1 sc in the BLO in each st, ch 1, turn
After row 70, fold the ribbing in half and slip stitch the ends together to make a circle, then do NOT cut the yarn!
Flip the ribbing over so the slip stitches point inwards.
Although, the Apache Tears stitch can be used for any number of multiples, I used a multiple of 5 throughout.
When going all the way around the ribbing to add single crochets, the stitch count needs to be a number that is divisible by 5.
The stitch count below is only mentioned for the number of stitches I used.
The amount of rounds of Apache tears hat you will be making depends on the head height of the person wearing it.
Again, my pattern is made according to the height of an average adult head.

Finishing Instructions
Now, cut the yarn about 1-1.5 ft. Secondly, use a tapestry needle to weave the yarn thru the last rounds stitches in and out.
When you reached the beginning again, pull tight so that your hole closes. Fasten off and weave in all the ends.
Now you can add a Pom-Pom to your Apache tears hat. I added a white one, so I kept my color sequence going.

I really like this stitch, however, I was not able to find where to download the free patterns. Hat and scarf. They were only for sale. Is there a free version some where that I’m just missing?
The hat pattern just appeared. Guess I was in too big of hurry for my slow computer. Hopefully the scarf pattern is just slow too. Thanks for sharing these. It really is a beautiful stitch.
