Even if you’re brand-new to crochet, you can still make a cute and thoughtful gift. These beginner crochet snowman coasters are quick and easy to make for the holidays!
Today we’re kicking off the second week of the 2023 Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along! Each day, from December 1st through December 24th, I’ll be posting one brand-new free crochet pattern, right here on my blog. These quick and easy makes are perfect for finishing off those last-minute Christmas gifts. Which pattern will it be? Well, that’s a surprise. So make sure you check back each day discover a new fun project!
For day 8, I’m sharing a beginner-friendly set of snowman crochet coasters. You stack the coasters, which are simple rounds of white yarn, to form the snowman’s body. Then you top it off with an adorable snowman head with a classic top hat made in black yarn, a smiling face, and a carrot nose. I made four coasters, but you can keep going and build your snowman as tall as you want!
These cute little coasters are the perfect winter decor accent. They make a great hostess gift when you’re invited to someone’s home for a holiday gathering. I could also see them as a fun stacking toy for little ones as long as you use a French knot for the eyes, since beads could be a choking hazard.
They require only basic crochet stitch knowledge, and are made almost entirely from single crochet stitches. This makes them appropriate for crocheters of any skill level, even a beginner. You could easily make a whole set of fun snowman crochet coasters in one evening. And they don’t take much yarn, so you could use scrap yarn for an inexpensive gift idea. After all, with handmade gifts, it’s your time and effort that are important, not the cost.

Sew on the beads as eyes and mouth.
Now use the orange yarn, attach it to the center of the face where the nose needs to go, then crochet stacked single crochet stitches (or chainless foundation single crochet chains) until it’s big enough for you. I made 3 stacked sc stitches. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Snowman Hat
R1: make a Magic Ring, add 6 sc to the ring, close the ring, use a stitch marker
R2: 2 sc per st
R3: 1 sc in the BLO all around
R4: 1 sc per st
R5: * 1 sc in the first st, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * all around
R6: * 1 sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the following st, repeat from * all around
Now sew your snowman hat onto the head.
Now you can stack the snowman topper on top of the snowman coasters.
