Another year, another amazing Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along. This year, we’re celebrating every day until December 24th with 8 stitch tutorials, 8 new free patterns, and 8 giveaway days with prizes galore.

Yesterday’s free crochet stitch tutorial was all about Broomstick Lace – one of the most iconic vintage stitches in crochet. Today we’re going to put those newfound skills into action with an adorable little free zipper pouch pattern.

Whether you want a quick weekend project, a handmade gift that doesn’t scream “last minute,” or just an excuse to play with pretty stitches, this pouch checks every box.

This broomstick-lace zipper pouch brings all the delicate, loopy texture without the stress—once you get the rhythm down, it’s wildly relaxing. And honestly? Watching those tall loops form is ridiculously satisfying.

Broomstick lace may look intimidating at first but the detailed video tutorials makes it approachable for advanced beginners.

This zipper pouch free pattern is fully lined but you don’t need a lining fabric, just a pre-made blank canvas zipper pouch. The one I used is linked below!.

It’s also perfect for stashing the essentials: crochet hooks, makeup, pencils, emergency chocolate—you know, the important stuff.

Crochet the broomstick lace section in rows.

R1: ch 30, using a 25mm knitting needle (or equivalent), pull up 1 loop per sc (see video)

R2: ch 1, *combining 5 loops at the time, 5 sc stitches around it, repeat from * until the end of the row, turn

Repeat R1-2 9 more times.

Now fold the piece in half, sew the now short edges together. (No need to worry about wrong sides or right sides, because broomstick lace is reversible!)

Insert the blank canvas zipper pouch and using thread sew the pouch to the crochet. You can use pins to hold everything in place but they’re not super necessary.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
