This easy crochet key cozy pattern is one of the most functional and well-used creations I ever designed.

I call it the Easy Keychain Cozy, and I literally use it every day.

I finally have a protected case around my keys.

Not only can I find them faster in my purse, but I also protect everything inside my purse from breaking or being tangled and scratched up.

Easy Crochet Key Cozy Pattern Details

Does this sound familiar?

You have a purse where you have everything inside: wallet, keys, phone, receipts, and in my case also yarn.

Way too often did I have to untangle my yarn from my keys.

Well, in Germany, I grew up with a keychain cozy and never thought about using it until I lived in the United States for years.

I finally made one for myself and I am happy about the yarn choice, the stitch, and the magnetic snaps.

The Easy Crochet Key Cozy features the Turkish Star Stitch.

It is a thick and very sturdy stitch that will protect your keys from poking thru the cozy and still damage something in your purse.

Furthermore, the magnetic snaps and the strap attached to the keychain cozy prevent the keys from sliding out accidentally.

It sure is the perfect keychain cozy to protect your valuables in your purse.

You can even attach the cozy to your pants with the key ring attached.

So let me now get started and tell you what you will need in order to crochet this amazing pattern.

How to crochet the Easy Key Cozy

Materials:

• Bernat Maker Home Dec(less than 1 skein):
  • Gold
• 6.0mm hook
• scissors
• tapestry needle
• Magnetic Snaps (2 sets)
• Hot Glue Gun
• key ring(s)

Stitches used (US terms):

Click HERE to learn these basic stitches

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• Turkish Star Stitch

Gauge:

4 rows x 2 sts = 1 square inch (Turkish Star stitch)

Final Size:

3.5 inches in width x 4 inches in length (without strap)

Crochet Key Cozy Written Instructions:

Ch 16 and connect the last with the first ch with a sl st (16 sts)

Round 1: ch 1, 1 sc in each st

You are now working in continues rounds (no sl st until the end)

Round 2: *2 sc in the same st, sk 1 st, repeat from * until the end of the round.

Round 3 – 20: * 1 Turkish Star stitch in between the third and fourth loop of the sc set in the previous round, repeat from * until the end.

Fasten off. Using some yarn, sew the bottom partially together such that there is a 1-inch hole right in the middle where the strap will go through.

Strap

Ch 4

Row 1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn

Row 2 – 18: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn

Fasten off.

Magnetic Snaps

Now attach first the inside magnetic snaps with hot glue. Then attach the thinner side such that it is on the outside (no glue). Next, attach the thicker side on the strap (not glue). After that fold over the strap with the magnetic snap on and glue or sew it such that the back is hiding.

In the end, fold over the other side of the strap as well and sew or glue it with a keychain ring in between.

Putting it all together

Finally, put the strap through the hole and attaching your keys to the key ring. You can now start using your Easy Keychain Cozy.
