How to Make an Easy Slouchy Loop Hat with a Free Pattern

This Easy Slouchy Loop Hat is neither a crochet nor a knitting pattern as you do not use a crochet hook or knitting needles. This means, I had some slight difficulties writing up the pattern. But no challenge can stop me which is why I decided to add a video tutorial showing you how to create this amazing Easy Slouchy Loop Hat. The secret to this scarf is the Bernat Alize Blanket Ez yarn which is a long yarn strand with loops on them made into a skein to work up with your hands. Other yarn companies have this amazing yarn available now too which means you can substitute yarns easily.
When Yarnspirations published the new yarn called Bernat Alize Blanket Ez yarn I knew right away I needed to get this yarn and create something special which turned out to be a Easy Loop Scarf as well as this Easy Slouchy Loop Hat. Initially I wanted to make a blanket with it, but then suddenly had this amazing idea to make a scarf with a hole as well as a hat to make them a set.
Making the Easy Slouchy Loop Hat slouchy without a pom-pom makes you want to focus on how the hat was made and its texture all around. The pattern is easily adjustable for any head size and even make it non-slouchy or turn it into a Messy Bun Hat.
If you have never tried this yarn before, you should definitely give it a try. Although this is not really a crochet pattern, it is a DIY knitting pattern without using any needles. You are simply putting loops through loops which creates a knitted pattern in the end.

This pattern goes in continuous rounds, so be sure to use a stitch marker to know when a row ends and another one starts.
To know how many loops to count out for a specific head size (this pattern is for an adult women’s head size), just wrap the yarn around the head you will make the hat for and then count out the loops. Remember the way we make the hat, it makes it non-stretchy around the head (it stretches in height only).
Round 1: With yarn tail on the right, lay out 28 loops of yarn, make sure to they are all organized and straight around a circle.
Round 2 – 10: Working from right to the left in circles, pull the 29th loop through the 1st loop from the back to the front, then the 30th thru the 2nd, etc, continue until the end of round 10
If you want the Easy Slouchy Loop Hat to be non-slouchy, you need to stop earlier (my guess is round 7).
You are now decreasing to finish up the Easy Slouchy Loop Hat.
Round 11 – 13: Combine 2 loops (hold them together) and then pull the new loop from the skein thru both loops, continue this pattern for 3 rounds. Then cut open some of the loops to weave in your ends (from the inside of the hat to make sure no bulk is shown from the outside).
Feel free to add a pom-pom, but I felt like the Easy Slouchy Loop Hat was thick and bulky enough and look pretty as it is.
Below you can see me wearing the Easy Loop Scarf with the Easy Slouchy Loop Hat as a combination. Don’t they look amazing together as a set?
If you prefer, I created a downloadable pdf for you all, that has all the pictures separated from the pattern. So you can choose whether you want to print them or not. That can save you a lot of ink in the long run.
