So grab your yarn and hook, and let’s make a hat that’ll have everyone asking, “Wait, you made that?!”

A Crochet Bucket Hat with 2 Hats in 1
We’re taking the classic bucket hat and giving it a major glow-up with double-sided reversible mosaic crochet. This exciting technique creates two completely different images on either side of the hat – not just the same image with the colors reversed.
One side of the hat has an exciting zig zag pattern and the other side has a cool geometric design with squares. That means you get two looks in one and there is no wrong side. Win-win!

Pattern Notes
You’ll first crochet the top of the hat, then the “bucket” part of the hat which is the only time you’ll use Mosaic Crochet, and finally the brim.
For the top and brim part of the hat you’ll crochet sc sts through both loops. For the Bucket/Mosaic Crochet section, sc stitches are made in blo.
All stitches on the back (anch-dc and double mdc) are made through the 3rd loop 2 rounds down to the same color on the back.
Anch-sc is made through front loop for mdc, and blo for sc. Stitches are demonstrated in the video tutorial for a sample project.

Crochet Bucket Hat Crown:
Start with White, use stitch markers (one color for the first st of each round, 1 color (need 6) for each increasing st)
R1: Magic Ring, add 6 sc
R2: 2 sc per st
R3: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until end of round
R4: *1 sc in 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until end of round
R5: *1 sc in 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until end of round
Gauge check! You should have 2 inches across at this stage. Adjust/Redo this section of that is not the case.
R6: [1 sc until you hit the marked st, 2 sc into the marked st] repeat 6 times
Small: Repeat R6 until circle is 4.5” across
Medium: Repeat R6 until circle is 5” across
Large: Repeat R6 until circle is 5.5” across
Extra Large: Repeat R6 until circle is 6” across
Sl st at the end of last round, as you’ll now crochet in non-continuous rounds.
Leave 6 increasing stitch markers attached. You’ll move them up to the brim section later. Count how many stitches are between each stitch marker.
Crochet Bucket Hat Body:
Use the graph below, or follow the written pattern.
Note: Sl st (I used the invisible slip stitch – pull loop from front to back through the first st) after every round.
Note: Switch colors every round, drop color not in use, do not cut it. Ch 1 before every anch-sc, do not count as a stitch.
R1: (sc) x 6
R2: (anch-dc) x 2, (anch-sc), (sc) x 2, (double mdc)
R3: (anch-sc), (sc), (anch-dc), (sc), (double mdc), (sc)
R4: (sc), (anch-sc), (sc), (anch-sc), (sc), (anch-dc)
R5: (anch-dc), (sc), (double mdc), (sc) x 2, (anch-sc)
R6: (anch-sc), (sc) x 2, (anch-dc), (double mdc), (anch-dc)
R7: (sc), (anch-sc), (sc), (anch-sc), (sc) x 2
Repeat R2-R7 for:
Small: 3”
Medium: 3.25”
Large: 3.75”
Extra Large: 4”
Then cut and secure purple yarn. Continue with white yarn.
Start crochet sc sts into both loops again.
Count how many stitches you have between the stitch markers from the last round before starting the bucket section.
Move those stitch markers to the last round you just made with the extra amount of stitches part as the last round of the top of the hat. (e.g. if you had 10 sts, then the stitch marker, will now count 10 sts and attach the stitch marker to the next st, repeat). You should have 6 stitch markers. Add one extra one (different color for the first st per round) as you’ll now crochet in continuous rounds again.

Crochet Bucket Hat Brim:
R1: [1 sc until you hit the marked st, 2 sc into the marked st] repeat 6 times
R2: 1 sc per st (move up stitch marker)
Repeat R1-R2 for:
Small: 2”
Medium: 2”
Large: 2.5”
Extra Large: 2.5”
Last round: Ch1. 1 rsc per st all around
Fasten off and weave in ends.
