Summary of Episode 20 with Jillian
I was excited when Jillian shared her story of how she started crocheting all the way back in 2013.
She studied law and was finding it very stressful, so she decided to pick up a crochet hook and hasn’t looked back.
Fully qualified and practicing lawyer, she designs on the side but it is a great escape for her after a hard day.
Crocheting for four years, Jillian has decided to make her own patterns after following a few before.
She started her blog in 2017 and shared her designs with other people.
I love the story Jillian shared about how she has come up with her business name. It is closely connected to her home and traditions.
Amigurumi is Jillian’s favorite thing to make and she has almost all the original makes she has made.
Jillian’s specialty is 2D crochet amigurumi which is a great variation on the traditional amigurumi, she calls them rag doll-style toys.
Finding inspiration everywhere as well as what is trending and popular, Jillian enjoys translating 3D shapes into flat panels which are used to make up her rag doll-style toys.
Her patterns are great for beginners that struggle with working in round. Jillian’s tip is practice makes perfect and patience when putting her toys together.
She also recommends crocheting loosely when joining the panels.
I absolutely adore Jillian’s amigurumi designs in faux fur yarn and she even shares a quick tip on how to make working with it easier.
I love the versatility of Jillian’s patterns and people make them into various items. Wall hanging, appliqués, purses or bags are some of the projects that crafters turned her designs into.
Jillian shares her process of how she designs her makes and I was amazed when she said she writes the pattern before she makes the actual toy.
It is an interesting design process and I was intrigued to find out more.
Jillian is an outdoor person, so when she is not crocheting, she likes to go outdoors with her husband and dog Archie.
They enjoy cycling as well as hiking together and she also enjoys visiting her family a lot and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
