We all love pockets. So being able to crochet a pouch with 3 pockets from a simple rectangle is amazing. But most of the time crochet projects have holes and bags and pouches usually require a lining. Well, with Thermal Crochet a pouch or a bag will not need any lining at all.

Whether you add coins, notions, or other nicknacks to this little tr-fold pouch this free crochet pattern which includes 3 detailed video tutorials will allow you to learn Thermal Crochet step by step, so even if you are a beginner you can follow along.

Tri-Fold Pouch

The Tr-Fold Pouch Pattern was designed with a Thermal Crochet Beginner in mind. I used only one basic Thermal Crochet Stitch, which is the Thermal Double Crochet Stitch.

Although this pattern was made with DK yarn, you can easily also make it in sport or fingering weight yarn, but it will make the project smaller. This pattern was designed with bamboo yarn, but it can also be made in polyester or even acrylic yarn.

This pattern used to be a mystery crochet along and is broken up like that accordingly.

Keep in mind, that this pattern used to be a Mystery CAL, and therefore the pattern is broken up as such.

Please use the video tutorials to guide you through this specific stitch.

USE stitch markers to help guide you. I use them for the first and last stitch of the row.

Ch 71, start from the 2nd ch from the hook.

R1: 1 ATC, 1 dc in each ch until the end, turn

R2: ch 1, 1 tdc (made through blo and parallel loop from below chain) in each st, turn

R3: ch 1, 1 tdc (made through blo and parallel loop – leftover flo – from the previous row) in each st, turn

Repeat R3 until you have 11 rows on each side of your work

Measurements are: 14.5 x 5 inches (it’s ok to have +/- 1-2 inches in each direction).

This stitch is stretchy. So it may look like it’s rounded around the first few rows, but once you pull a bit at the top rows, it will all adjust nicely. As long as your stitch count is correct, you’re fine.

Surprise!

You’ll simply continue the pattern from Part 1 just a bit more.

Repeat R3 until you have 19 rows on one side of your work and 20 rows on the other side of your work.

Measurements are: 14.5 x 9 inches (it’s ok to have +/- 1-2 inches in each direction).

This stitch is stretchy. So it may look like it’s rounded around the first few rows, but once you pull a bit at the top rows, it will all adjust nicely. As long as your stitch count is correct, you’re fine.

Quick notes:

If you didn’t have the right measurements, it’s ok. You can easily adjust it by adding more or fewer rows if needed.

If you can’t get the stitch count to be 70, just adjust the numbers below to be even so that you can finish the project.

AND in case you want to finish your project differently, that is fine too. You could make a smaller pouch (maybe with a zipper), hook holder and so much more.

Written Pattern

Be sure to WATCH the Video for PART 3 so you know how to fold and sew the project together. Here is how I finished the pattern:

R20: ch 1, 1 tdc (going through all 3 loops (front back, and leftover loop from the previous row)) for 25 sts, then 1 tdc (going through the back and leftover loop from the previous row) for 20 sts, and then again 1 tdc (going through all 3 loops (front back, and leftover loop from the previous row)) for 25 sts

Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Reattach yarn on the 20th stitch from the center section of R20.

R1: ch 1, 1 tdc (made through blo and parallel loop – leftover flo – from the previous row) in each st, turn

Repeat R1 until you have 7 rows on each side of your work.

For the LAST row: ch 1, 1 tdc (going through all 3 loops (front back, and leftover loop from the previous row)) in each st, turn

Fold your project in half.

Now looking at the picture ABOVE, sew a line where it’s marked on the picture (that is the halfway point of the bigger section on the right – where the hook is shown on the picture).

Then adjust your project until It looks like the next picture.

Optionally, you can sew a line in the center (shown with the yellow line – watch part 3 – I mentioned a moving piece towards the end. If you don’t want it moving, sew a line across here).

Then fold your project in half and sew those center edges together. As shown below in the picture with blue lines above and with my hands in the next picture (also shown in the video of Part 3)

Finally, add your button or snap and you’re done.

Having used thermal crochet for this project allows you to skip using a lining.

You can now use this Tri-Fold Pouch as you wish.
