Instructions for Corner to Corner Diagonal Box Stitch
Before you start crocheting the Present Pillow With Bow or Joy Pillow With Wreath, (only ONE of these two will get published for FREE tomorrow via the Advent Calendar MCAL), let’s first go through the stitch tutorial and learn how to crochet this stitch.
To make a swatch to practice this stitch, please watch the video tutorial in detail as there are MANY tips shared and shown off in terms of smooth color changes
In general, one box stitch (one pixel on the graph) is a Ch3 and 3 dc sts.
The dc sts are either in chains or in a chain-3 space of a neighboring box stitch.
All box stitches are connected with sl st.
Since this is a C2C project, you’ll crochet from one corner to another corner in a snack/zig zaggy pattern.
All increases are made with ch6, 3 dc stitches in 4th, 5th and 6th chain from the hook.
All decreases are made with 3 sl st, ch 3, 3 dc in chain-3 space.
In general the above pixel graph for C2C is written out like this:
← Row 1 [RS]: (w) (1 square)
→ Row 2 [WS]: (w) x 2 (2 squares)
← Row 3 [RS]: (w), (r), (w) (3 squares)
Corner: Start decreasing on WS
→ Row 4 [WS]: (w), (r), (w) (3 squares)
Corner: Start decreasing on RS
← Row 5 [RS]: (r), (w) (2 squares)
→ Row 6 [WS]: (w) (1 square)
For color changes, if the color is too far away, make a loop and connect. If the pixel is next to it, you can carry your yarn to pick it up (if it doesn’t show).
More tips are in the video for the best understanding here in More C2C Color Changing Tips.
