Calling all book lovers who crochet 📖🧶 This free crochet reading pillow pattern is worked in C2C, spells out “book lover,” and includes TWO pockets for storing books or notebooks. Cozy, practical, and perfect for reading nooks or gifts!
Welcome back to my very first Book Lover’s Mystery CAL! From February 2nd to February 13th, I’ll be releasing 6 new free patterns that are perfect for book lovers. Each pattern will have its own live tutorial with a chance to win prizes!
The second pattern of the event is this free crochet reading pillow pattern. If your idea of a perfect evening involves yarn in your lap and a story you can’t put down, you’re going to feel very seen by this pillow.
Some projects just get you, and this crochet pocket pillow is one of them. Designed for unapologetic book lovers, it’s cozy, clever, and proudly declares your literary devotion right on the front. Maybe it will even get your kids to like reading!

This free reading pillow pattern is made using the corner to corner (C2C) technique, making it a fun and satisfying project with bold texture and clean lettering. The words “book lover” are worked right into the design, so it’s not just a pillow, it’s a vibe.
And then there are the pockets. Two of them. These built-in pockets turn your pillow into a cozy little reading station, perfect for couches, beds, or your favorite reading nook.
The pockets are the perfect size for books, notebooks, and you can also use them to hold things like pencils or the TV remote (maybe then it won’t get lost so often??)
It’s functional, comfy, and cute enough to gift to a fellow reader who definitely doesn’t need another bookmark. What’s not to love?

Assembly
Fold the rectangle like a Z such that there is an area on the back for pockets AND on the bottom an area for the pillow to be pushed in. First, sew the short edges all together, add extra lines for the pockets (as many as you like). Finally add the pillow insert and then sew the bottom closed (or add buttons/zipper if you prefer).
