This free crochet pattern is all about how to crochet a bow with one color easily and fast. I recently made an Advent Wreath which needed some bows to make it look even better and show more Christmas flare. If you prefer making striped bows, I have a free crochet pattern on my website as well.

This pattern is part of the above-mentioned Advent Wreath which was sponsored by Lion Brand Yarns who provided me with some free yarn. The yarn I used was Heartland and it was the best yarn for this project.

This pattern is also part of the Advent Wreath Crochet Along. Be sure to check out the main page for that as well.

I absolutely love this yarn and it is from now on one of my favorite go-to yarns. It is so soft and easy to work with. And let me tell you the colors are incredible.

As this pattern is created for the Advent Wreath, please go to Ravelry and add the entire pattern to your Ravelry Favorites. This is also the place where you could purchase the entire pattern at once, which includes all 6 patterns of the Advent Wreath.

So, if you prefer an ad-free version of this pattern where the pictures are added separately to the back of the pattern (to save ink in case you just want to reference the pictures but not print them), you can purchase the pdf on Ravelry or Etsy below.

So, let me now tell you what you will need to make these awesome looking candles and how to make them very easily.

How to crochet a Bow with one color

You will need (click to see which ones I used):

    • Lion Brand Heartland yarn
      • 1 skein of Yellowstone (136-158)
    • 5.00mm hook
    • scissors
    • tapestry needle

    Stitches used, in US terms:

You can learn all Basic Stitches through THESE TUTORIALS

    • ch = chain
    • sl st = slip stitch
    • sc = single crochet

    Final Sizes:

    Bow: 4.5 x 4.5 inches

    Gauge:

    4 sc x 4 rows = 1 square inch

    Instructions:

Make 4 Bows if you make them for the Advent Wreath CAL

    Using Yellowstone

Chain 51, then starting from the 2nd ch from the hook

Row 1: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts left, 1 sc dec, ch 1, turn (48 sts)

    Row 2 – 6: repeat row 1 (after row 6, you have 38 sts)

Row 7: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st until 7 sts left, ch 1, turn (30 sts)

Row 8: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st until 7 sts left, ch 1, turn (24 sts)

Row 9 – 10: 1 sc in each st, ch 1 turn, after row 10, sl st and fasten off.

    (Picture 1)

Small piece to wrap around the bow:

Ch 10, then starting from the 2nd ch from the hook

Row 1 – 2: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn, fasten off after row 2, cut the end to be about half a foot long for sewing.

    (picture 5)

Fold the large piece to make it look like a bow (see pictures 2-4), pinch the middle and sew together the end of the small piece (picture 6 – 7). Fasten off and weave in the ends (picture 8).

Sew the bow onto the bottom half of the candle (picture 9).
