A stitch that makes most people “awe” when they see it, is the waffle stitch. It not only makes you hungry for a yummy and sugaring breakfast meal but it also has a lot of texture that can be seen from afar.
The Waffle stitch is used for so many different varieties of patterns that it has become a very popular advanced beginner crochet stitch to learn many different types of crochet projects.
In fact, I first used this stitch to make a washcloth which provides so much texture and grip. Simply a fun stitch not only to crochet but also to use as a finished project after.
Waffle Crochet Stitch Alternatives
After many years of crocheting the Waffle Stitch, I came across many different alternatives of the Waffle Stitch. Does that mean one is the correct one and the rest are versions of the original? NO!
Why? Because the waffle stitch was created by several different people around the world. Some have 1 double crochet stitch between the front post double crochet stitches and some have more. You might even see patterns using half double crochet, single, or even treble crochet stitches.
The idea of the Waffle stitch is to create a waffle pattern using basic crochet stitches. As long as it looks like a waffle, it really doesn’t matter which version you use or like.
For this Waffle Stitch Tutorial, I’ll be focusing on the most well-known version which has 2 double crochet stitches between the front post double crochet stitches, looking at it from the front or right side.
