The Best Crochet Stitch for a Blanket

The best crochet stitch for a blanket will vary from person to person. When choosing the perfect stitch for a blanket project we need to think about a few basic things.

Firstly, we need to consider the season the blanket is going to be used in.

If it is summer/springtime or a warmer country, you might want to pick a more lacy crochet stitch. This will create a light and airy crochet blanket that can be draped over your shoulders or on your lap on a cooler evening.

For wintertime or cold countries, I would suggest using more solid stitches with minimal gaps or thick stitches that create double layers for twice the warmth. These cozy blanket stitches are also great for baby blankets.

Secondly, let’s talk about the ease of stitch. As I mentioned above, blankets are huge crochet projects. That’s why you need to pick a crochet stitch you enjoy doing.

You can have the best intentions of making a blanket in a fancy crochet stitch that will look amazing. However, if you find the stitch difficult or don’t enjoy doing it, chances are your blanket will sit on the unfinished pile for a little while (or indefinitely).

Choosing your favorite crochet stitches will go a long way to keeping your motivation to work on your project strong. You can also select a number of stitches to make your project even more interesting.

You will also need to decide how large you’d like your blanket to be. There are many options for standard blanket sizes to choose from. So find one that suits your needs.

Easy Crochet Stitches for Blankets – With Video Tutorials

Sometimes patterns or stitches say that they are ‘easy’ or ‘for beginners’ when they are really not!

The best way that I have found to make crochet tutorials more accessible for beginners is to include video tutorials. Having a helpful visual that will walk you through the stitches step-by-step takes the guesswork out of it.

You can build confidence in your own crochet skills this way and make a beautiful blanket in the process.
