This is a collection of 30 different crochet blanket border patterns that can be used on any variety of blankets, shawls, rugs, and more.
A crochet blanket and a hot cup of tea are the perfect way to snuggle up and relax after a long day. Do you have a favorite crochet blanket? What’s that one blanket you always grab when you want one?
Mine is my Beach Throw Blanket – and my favorite part about that blanket is its Reverse Shell Border. This pretty border creates a beautiful scalloped edging that adds that extra little bit to make this blanket complete.
One reason why I love adding borders to so many of my crochet projects is they just give my projects that ‘finished piece’ look. Oftentimes, I feel a piece is simply not complete without a pretty border to complement it.
Another reason why I like crochet borders is they’re kind of like a ‘mix and match’ thing. Choose your blanket design, then choose a border that will fit it well. A crochet border can completely change the look of your blanket. And it can be a fun way to customize your blanket to give it just the vibe you’re going for.
Crocheting Blanket Borders
Honestly, there are endless types of crochet borders so I will just highlight a few of the popular ones.
Simple. Some crochet blankets just call for something simple such as a Crab Stitch or Candy Cane Border. These borders don’t use a ton of yarn and add a nice, simple detail.
You can make a more elaborate crochet border by making a shell or lace border. These crochet borders often use a bit more yarn and tend to make a bigger statement. If you’re going for eye-catching, then these borders will work well for you.
Bobble or puff stitch borders. These types of borders really make a fun statement. Bobble borders are a great addition to baby blankets or casual throw blankets. You can also use a bobble border in place of fringe as well.
Of course, once you’ve decided on a border, you’ll need to figure out your stitch count. Daisy Farm Crafts has a really great blog post on how to calculate an even crochet blanket border HERE.

This fun crochet border is made using a combination of chains and bobble stitches to create a cute border. Use this border for baby blankets or any blanket to give it a fun ‘pop’ of detail.
