I’ll never forget the first time I lost my favorite crochet hook. One minute, I was happily crocheting on the couch, and the next—it was gone. Vanished into the crochet void, likely swallowed by the same mysterious force that eats stitch markers and yarn needles. After spending way too much time searching under cushions, inside project bags, and even in the fridge (don’t ask), I realized something—I needed a dedicated pouch for my crochet essentials!

The One-Piece Pouch for Yarn Lovers

That’s how this Filet Crochet Zipper Pouch Pattern came to be! It’s not just pretty and practical, but it also lets you crochet words into your design—a fun way to show off your love for yarn. With “LOVE” on one side and “YARN” on the other, this pouch is perfect for storing hooks, notions, or even stationery.

Free Filet Crochet Love Yarn Zipper Pouch Pattern - Standard Pin

Originally designed as a Mystery Crochet Along (MCAL), this project was such a hit that I knew I had to share it as a free pattern! Even if you’ve never tried filet crochet, I’ll guide you through each step with three detailed video tutorials so you can confidently create this beautiful pouch.

This previous Mystery CAL pattern is broken into clear, manageable steps, just like the CAL was. It was designed to keep you excited and engaged, with each new section building upon the last. If you missed the CAL, now’s your chance to enjoy this fun, beginner-friendly project at your own pace!

The best part? You don’t have to worry about sewing a lining! This pattern is designed to be attached to a ready-made canvas zipper pouch, keeping things simple and beginner-friendly. Grab your Lion Brand Coboo DK yarn and a 3.5mm hook, and let’s make something both functional and fabulous!

Written Pattern Notes

Keep in mind, that this pattern used to be a Mystery CAL, and therefore the pattern is broken up as such.

Pattern Notes:

The written pattern (using 3DC filet crochet) is outlined like the graph, so it’s easier to compare and understand. This means it’s written pattern is longer and more detailed than normal.

How to Assemble the Zipper Pouch

If you finish the Zipper Pouch Pattern the way I did, you will need this CANVAS ZIPPER POUCH (click here) (or make your own).

Make sure to watch the video as I explain HOW I sewed it all together AND how the zipper pouch is NOT required to qualify for the giveaway. In the video, I talk about HOW you have to take the picture to qualify, though!

Fold piece in half, add canvas zipper between and seam one of the short edges together (mattress stitch or whip stitch), sew to the bottom corner of the pouch, weave yarn across to the other side, sew to the other bottom corner of the pouch, and them up the second short edges. Finally, sew crochet to the zipper area with a running stitch.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Enjoy

Then, post a picture of your part 3 completed with the hashtag #MAR25MCAL in the Facebook Group “Crocheting with Nicki” so we can find and celebrate you.
