The pattern was a Design CAL
Recently I created a new type of crochet-a-longs and they are called Design CALs. They are hosted as part of my “The Crochet Club” membership and can only be accessed as a member.
These Design CALs are super special because members have input on how the pattern turns out. We start the pattern with an idea and every week, for 4 weeks, the pattern is extended until it’s done. All through video tutorials, one each week.
There is a new Design CAL each month now. Currently, we’re working on one small crochet pattern per week. In April 2023 we focused on Fruits. We have so far focused on animals, spring, easter, fall, Christmas, and winter. Next, we’ll crochet back-to-school, fall, and holiday patterns.
This Watermelon crochet Coin Purse crochet pattern was designed in April 2023 in The Crochet Club. It was a highly requested pattern and makes a fun project.
You’ll be able to find the Watermelon Coin Pouch video tutorial inside The Crochet Club as it is exclusive to the membership. The pattern is now accessible also on my website for you with ads, or Ravelry, Etsy, and LoveCrafts as a pdf without ads.

R15: *1 sc in the next 13 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end of the round
Watermelon White Rind
Change to White yarn for the next 2 rounds
You can use the invisible join to switch between the colors for a cleaner transition
R16: *1 sc in the next 14 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end of the round
R17: *1 sc in the next 15 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end of the round
Watermelon Green Skin
Change to Green yarn for the next 4 rounds
R18: *1 sc in the next 16 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end of the round
R19: *1 sc in the next 17 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end of the round
Using black yarn and a tapestry needle sew V’s to the red area of the watermelon, randomly to make watermelon seeds
Watermelon Coaster Alternative
(If you want to make a coaster, I would recommend reducing by 5 rounds of red and changing color, starting with white and green earlier.)
Optionally, sew a circle of fabric to a zipper (make sure the fabric is on the opposite side of the zipper, so when you open the zipper closure, the right side of the fabric is shown).
I used a sewing machine to sew the zipper to the fabric circle, then hand-sewed the zipper/lining to the folded crochet circle
