Free Multi Reversible Crochet Basket Patterns

This is a free multi-reversible crochet basket pattern with 3 layers and hidden pockets. This is a great beginner pattern using bulky Mary Maxim Home yarn.
Crochet Baskets can be plain but they sure do not have to be. Yes, you can add fancy images, embroidery, animals, or flowers. But my designs are more functional and multi-purpose. This basket is not just reversible one way, but multiple ways. Let me explain.
So you can have pockets on the inside and outside of the folded-over basket. When you fold the outer layer inward, then the pockets become hidden. But you can also add an optional third thinner layer that looks like a drawstring bag such that you can close up your basket – maybe with your current crochet wip – so nothing gets lost. You can see how it reverses/transforms in action here.
And if you are a visual learner, I also added a few video tutorials to learn the stitches and LOADS OF TIPS needed to help you along with the written pattern as well. This pattern used to be a mystery crochet along and is broken up like that accordingly.

How to Crochet the Multi-Reversible Basket Pattern
Materials you will need
- Mary Maxim HOME Yarn (bulky, 68% cotton, 32% polyamide, ~108yds/150g)) – 1 skein per color (I used):
- Sand
- Grey
- Grey Splash
- OPTIONAL (for a pattern feature): Mary Maxim SUNRISE Yarn (DK, 100% micro acrylic, 240yds/100g) – in color (I used): Desert Sand
- 1 Plastic canvas sheet to cut (I used a 10.5 x 13.5 inch sheet)
- 8.0mm hook – I used a Furls Crochet Streamline Hook
- If you use the optional yarn, you’ll also need a 4.0mm hook
Optional Yarn? Why?
This pattern used to be part of a Mystery CAL and focuses mainly on teaching you a lot of crochet tips, all while keeping the pattern easy and beginner friendly, yet super fun and exciting. This means the pattern will be finished and functional using just the 3 skeins of Home yarn. However, I have an optional feature you can add to the finished pattern to make it extra special and unique (drawstring bag attached to the basket). For that feature, I used Sunrise yarn.
If you want to use the yarn skeins I used, here are a few yarn color possibilities I recommend:
Gauge
8 sts x 11 rounds = 4 square inches
Size
Large basket: 6 inches in height, 10 inches in diameter
Smaller basket: 5 inches in height, 8 inches in diameter
Stitches used in the pattern

Pattern Notes
First, you’ll crochet the bottom (one of 2 sizes) and then work your way up. Until you finish the reversible body of the basket. Then optionally add a 3rd layer with a drawstring. Keep in mind that this pattern used to be part of a Mystery CAL and therefore is broken up into 3 pieces and 3 videos.
Basket Bottom
You have a choice to make the SMALLER or the LARGER project. I made both so you’ll be able to see both versions at the end. The yarn provided is enough for EITHER one, but not both.

REMEMBER to WATCH the VIDEO above either before or while you crochet the pattern, as it includes LOTS OF TIPS!
Small note though: I grabbed the wrong size hook for the video. 8.0mm is correct!
Use the darkest, solid color.
Crochet 2 circles (repeat the pattern twice).
You’ll work in continuous rounds for the circle.

Finishing the Reversible Crochet Basket
Let’s finish the basket with this video:
Subscribe to my Youtube Channel here:
Use the Multi-Colored yarn and a standing single crochet stitch (the video shows you how to).
Repeat R1 (from part 2) with the same amount of rounds as you did with the lighter yarn.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Sew the pockets on opposite from one another, but 1 on the outside (to the multi-colored yarn while flipped out) and one on the inside (to the lighter-colored yarn).
Optional: Drawstring Bag Attached To Multi-Reversible Basket
Extra basket feature with DK yarn
Attach the DK yarn to one of the horizontal bars to the top of the lighter bulkier yarn.
R1: [1 ATC, 1 dc] in the same st, 2 dc in each st all around, sl st
R2: 1 ATC, 1 dc per st, sl st
Repeat R2 until you have 5-10 more times (depending on the basket height – I did 10 for the larger basket).
R3: 1 ATC, ch 1, sk 1, *1 dc, ch 1, sk 1, repeat from * all around, sl st
R4: 1 sc per st/ch, sl st
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Add a rope or piece of bulky yarn through the filet crochet lace opening in R3 as a drawstring.
As you can see you can use the basket – smaller or bigger one – in many different ways and even hide your pockets, or valuables. How will you use your Multi-Reversible Basket?
