Summary of Episode 15 with Briana

I always wish I lived closer to Briana as we hit it off with our online friendship.

We have started our chat about the beginnings of Briana’s crochet career. She wanted to make cute photo props for her firstborn son for a photo shoot.

I was amused when Briana described the first hat she made, however, crochet is all about the journey and she has come so far!

Briana got into working with local professional photographers who used to ask her to make cute photo props for photoshoots.

This is how she got to design her very first pattern and we both got very emotional when Briana shared the story behind it. It involved a very special baby Aiden who is a true fighter. That was the inspiration behind his photo outfit Briana stayed up all night crocheting.

She got so many messages requesting the outfit but was unable to keep up with the demand, that she decided to write the pattern.

Briana has also ventured into knitting and has a few easy patterns.

I was amazed when Briana shared she has an art degree and she first started in the photography business. However, running two businesses was a bit too much so she decided to concentrate on crochet and incorporate her photography skills into it.

Briana shares a funny story of how she ”borrows” items from her neighbor’s houses or even their whole houses for a photoshoot.

Briana shares a couple of great tips and tricks on how to take professional-looking photos of your makes. Sometimes it might involve her husband who is a great help in Briana’s crochet business.

I laughed when Briana shared a bribery trick on how to get her kids into crochet. Her husband is very good at sewing in ends.

Infinity crochet is a unique technique that has seen Briana’s crochet business skyrocket. It came at a trying time in her personal life, but Briana wanted to bring the knit-look cables into crochet.

Briana loves the challenge of converting crochet patterns into knitting and vice versa. She also likes providing both patterns for bi-crafty people who both knit and crochet, so they can choose.

I laughed when Briana shared a funny story about a “cranky” lady that would not believe her and thought Briana was lying.

Traveler Fair Isle Sweater was one of the many patterns that went viral. The sweater is inspired by knit colorwork, however, it looks easier to crochet than it looks.

Here is what Briana says about her design:

“During a time when traveling is restricted, I took to my yarn and traveled to places in my imagination while working up the Traveler Crochet Fair Isle Sweater Pattern.

Let’s talk about the fair isle yoke, right? I almost stopped at this point and framed it, a beautiful work of art created with some yarn and a crochet hook. However, why frame it when you can wear it of course?

This sweater is worked in a top-down seamless yoke style with fair isle colorwork. The body of the sweater is worked continuously without joining.”
