This is a round-up of the best free crochet market bag patterns from some of the great designers. Crochet market bags are so easy and quick to make and super useful!

I wake up super early every Saturday morning. After soaking up the morning sun with a freshly brewed cup of coffee in my hand, I head down to the local farmer’s market.

I simply love the fresh products that were so carefully grown and made. There is a real sense of appreciation for things produced on a smaller scale, often by just a couple of pairs of hands.

I am so proud to be walking down my usual route around the market with a handmade crochet market bag happily swinging on my shoulder. It gets lots of smiles and turns a few heads.

Why make a crochet market bag?

Firstly, market bags as crochet projects are so satisfying to make, aren’t they? They use open crochet stitches to create mesh-type fabric. This means they can expand to double their original size. Even more room for yarn… uhm … I mean fresh produce…

Because they use open lacy stitches, they are super fast to work up. This makes them a great craft stall product to sell too.

A crochet market bag is also such a great alternative to a plastic bag to carry your shopping. As mentioned above they can fit a lot of shopping in and you do not have to worry that the handles are going to give in under the weight.

They are environmentally friendly as you can use them over and over again. Furthermore, they are super stylish and you can customize them in size and color you want to use.

10 Free Crochet Market Bag Patterns

I have chosen 10 free crochet market bag patterns from some of the best crochet designers around.

    Easy Crochet Market Bag

This market bag features filet crochet and linked crochet stitches. I needed to show off my love for lace designs with open mesh using filet crochet. But I also really love linked crochet, which I used for its characteristic sturdiness and support as the top brim and handle.

EASY CROCHET MARKET BAG – FREE PATTERN WITH FILET CROCHET AND LINKED CROCHET STITCHES is a free pattern available here on my website.

    Summer Retro Tote Bag

Summer retro style meets function and versatility in this fun crochet hexagon tote bag. The pattern uses an easy hexagon motif and has an added visual interest by adding a pop of color.

It also uses basic crochet stitches which the pattern uses to form the bag’s solid, sturdy bottom and strap. You can use your bag as a crochet market bag, project bag, beach bag, or everyday tote bag. FOLLOW THIS LINK for the free crochet pattern.

    Grab & Go Market Bag

This is a simple market bag that can be easy and fast to crochet. The stitch pattern in this bag is a little like the basic granny stitch in rows with a little difference. You crochet dc in ch-sp and add a little texture created with a front post double crochet. This stitch combination creates such a beautiful pattern. The finished crochet market bag is stretchy enough and lightweight. Check out the free crochet pattern by CLICKING ON THIS LINK.

    Grab & Go Market Bag

    French Style Crochet Bag

This is a simple but oh-so-chic market bag inspired by the traditional French net grocery bag. This bag just screams to be filled with beautiful things and simple but elegant ingredients – flowers, leafy greens, cheese, and loaves of bread.

This bag is not actually made in the round but rather in a large square that is then gathered quite closely on the two sides where the handles go and a little less on the other two sides to form the sack shape. This allows for optimum expansion of the bag. The free pattern is available HERE.

    French Style Crochet Bag

    Sunday Market Bag

The Sunday Market Bag provides a basic function of carrying your stuff and you can look stylish doing it! The pattern starts from the bottom of the bag up and in the round.

The main body is a quick one-row repeat so it is a great pattern for beginners. By using the linked stitches really helps prevent as much stretching as some stitches allow. Check out THIS WEBSITE for the free pattern.

    Sunday Market Bag

    Crochet Boho Grocery Bag

This super stylish grocery bag adds a touch of class and fun back into the monotonous shopping for food. This pattern starts with the base of the bag and is worked from the bottom up.

The fringe at the top makes this a fun and modern design with a boho feel. The middle part of the bag uses the filet crochet technique which allows the bag to stretch.
