If you’ve ever made a granny square, you can absolutely achieve this boxed block stitch. It works up in a similar fashion and is just as fun as a traditional granny square.

Instructions for the Crochet Boxed Block Stitch
Before you start crocheting the Pillow and the Triangle Shawl, (only ONE of these two will get published for FREE tomorrow via the Advent Calendar MCAL), let’s first go through the stitch tutorial and learn how to crochet this stitch.
Instructions:
To make a swatch to practice this stitch, crochet the following:
Color A
R1: Make a magic ring, 1 ATC (stacked sc st), 2 dc, ch 2, * 3dc, ch 2, repeat from * until the end, sl st, drop yarn, do not turn
Color B
R2: start in ch2sp, *[1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc] in the corner ch2sp, ch 3, repeat from * until the end, sl st, cut yarn
Color A
R3: reattach loop and start in corner, ch3sp, [1 ATC, 2 dc] in the same space, *3 dc in the next ch3sp, in the corner ch3sp place [3dc, ch 2, 3 dc], repeat from * all around, finish in first corner with 3 dc, ch 2 and sl st, drop yarn
Color B
R4: join in corner ch2sp, *[1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc] in the corner ch2sp, **ch 3, 1 sc between next 2 dc blocks (one block has 3 dc sts), repeat from ** until the corner, repeat from * until the end, sl st, fasten off.
Color A
R5: reattach loop and start in corner, ch3sp, [1 ATC, 2 dc] in the same space, *3 dc in each ch3sp, in the corner ch3sp place [3dc, ch 2, 3 dc], repeat from * all around, finish in first corner with 3 dc, ch 2 and sl st, drop yarn
Repeat R4-5 for the pattern
