This simple and pretty cabled crochet towel ring holder uses two wooden rings to hold any towel on your oven handle or cabinet pull. It’s a quick and easy pattern that makes a useful gift.
It’s day 18 of the 2023 Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along (MCAL), which means there is just one week until Christmas. That’s seven crafting days to go. If you still need inspiration for holiday gift ideas, you’ve come to the right place! Each day, from December 1st through December 24th, I’ll post one free crochet pattern for a last-minute Christmas gift, right here on my blog. Which pattern will it be? It’s a surprise! So check back each day find a fun new crochet project.
Today I’m sharing a super quick ring towel holder pattern. Unlike traditional towel toppers, which are often sewn or crocheted onto the top of the towel, this one connects two wooden rings with a crocheted strap. You just fold the crochet piece over your stove handle and loop the towel through. It allows you to use any towel and even change them out. This comes in handy when you need to wash your dish towels. Just swap them for clean ones and you’re good to go!
This simple crochet towel holder makes a great housewarming gift. It would be a great addition to a gift basket, along with some nice tea towels and some crochet dishcloths. They also make thoughtful gifts for moms, grandmas, or any practical people who already have enough “stuff.” They don’t take up much space or contribute to clutter. Plus, since they serve a purpose in your loved one’s daily life, they’ll be reminded of you every time they reach for their hand towel. Sustainably-minded friends will also appreciate useful handmade items.
But who says practical projects can’t also be beautiful? These towel rings are lovely decorations as well as functional items. They get a special touch from front post and back post double crochet stitches that form a braid-like design. If you’ve always wanted to try crochet cables, this is a great way to practice them on a smaller project that takes little time. These cables are deceptively simple to create and I’ve included a full video tutorial to help you through the project.
The towel holder shown here uses Premier Just Yarn Worsted, an economical worsted weight acrylic yarn. It comes in 22 colors so you’re sure to find something to match your recipient’s kitchen decor. But this crochet dish towel topper uses only a small amount of yarn, so it’s also perfect for using up scrap yarn from your stash. You could use any acrylic medium weight yarn, like I Love This Yarn! from Hobby Lobby, or even a worsted weight cotton yarn.
Now let’s get started!
