Materials you will need

Gauge

5 sts x 1 5-loop row (edge) = 1 square inch

Size

Writing for size M, but instructions given to make it work for ANY size:

1 connected panel is 1.5 inches across, besides the edges which is 2 on each side with stretch.

Measure your waist, subtract 7 inches, then divide by 2, that is the width of 1 of the 2 rectangles.

For size M, waist is 35 inches, subtract 7 inches, is 28, divide by 2, is 14 inches for the width of the rectangle. Size M has 8 panels (6x 1.5 inches + 2 x 2 inches = 13 inches) which stretches to 14 inches due to the yarn and stitch.

Instructions:

Make sure to watch the video for Hairpin Lace first. Using the Clover Hairpin Lace tool, put 2 pins into position 6 and 6 (pins are 6cm apart). Then crochet 8 (size M) panels each with 280 loops on each side. Per smaller size remove 20 loops per side (e.g. size S is 260 loops) and per larger size, add 20 loops (e.g. size L is 300 loops)

Before removing the loops from the stick, make sure to add a spare yarn piece through to secure them from twisting.

Each panel has loops on 2 sides. Take 1 side per panel and connect them like this: Insert your hook through 4 loops from one panel, then go to the other panels loops and grab 4 loops and pull them through the first 4 loops, then go back to the first panel and grab the next 4 loops and pull them through the 4 loops on your hook, repeat until all loops are worked up. Secure at the end. Weave in ends. Do this for all panels.

Now you have the outsider side’s loops left. Connect a new yarn on one of the loops, **then grab 1 loop at the time and crochet 1 dc, then go to the next loop and repeat until the end of the side, fasten off. Now repeat from ** on the other side where the loops haven’t been worked on yet.

Finally, fold the rectangle in half and lay them next to each other. Sew HALF of the inside touching long edge together (backside). Now seam from the bottom up the outside touching long edges up until the arm holes (8 inch opening, or more or less depending on your arm size).

Fasten off and weave in ends. Block your work.
