So, let me now give you the supplies you need in order to crochet this fun project.
Free Tunisian Crochet Shawl Pattern with Wave Stitch
Materials you will need
- Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday DK Yarn (100g) – DK (#3) yarn
- Mist (2.5 skeins)
- Cadet Blue (2.5 skeins)
- 5mm Tunisian Crochet Hook (one with a long cable), here are some options to get that I recommend:
- Scissors
- tapestry needle
Gauge
4 sts x 3 rows (TSS) = 1 square inch
Size
24 x 60 inches (laid out flat)
Stitches used in the pattern
Learn all the basic crochet stitches HERE (US crochet terms and abbreviations)
- TSS = Tunisian Simple Stitch
- TDS = Tunisian Double Stitch
- TTR = Tunisian Treble Stitch
- sl st = slip stitches
- ch = chain

Before starting your Tunisian crochet shawl, I recommend watching the stitch tutorial video below.
Tunisian Crochet Shawl – Written Instructions
Ch 253
R1 F: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 TSS in each st (forward pass)
R1 R: work stitches off the hook
R2 F: skip the first vertical bar (edge stitch), then crochet *1 TSS in the next 2 sts, 1 TDS (Tunisian Double Crochet Stitch) in the next 2 sts, 1 TTR (Tunisian Treble Crochet Stitch) in the next 3 sts, 1 TDS (Tunisian Double Crochet Stitch) in the next 2 sts, 1 TSS, repeat from * until you have 2 sts left, 1 TSS and 1 edge stitch (TSS)
R2 R: Work the reverse pass as normal, switching colors during the last yarn over and pull through
R3 F: with 2nd color, 1 TSS in each st
R3 R: work stitches off the hook, switching colors during the last yarn over and pull through
Tunisian Crochet Shawl INSTRUCTIONS continued:
R4 F: With the first color, ch 2 (edge stitch), * 1 TTR in the next 2 sts, 1 TDR in the next 2 sts, 1 TSS in the next 3 sts, 1 TDS in the next 2 sts, 1 TTR, repeat from * until you have 2 sts left, 1 TTR in the last 2 sts (even edge stitch).
R4 R: Work the reverse pass as normal, switch colors during the last yarn over and pull through.
R5 F: with 2nd color, 1 TSS in each st
R5 R: work stitches off the hook, switching colors during the last yarn over and pull through
Repeat rows 2-5 for the pattern and until it measures 24 inches.
Bind off after the last row. Fasten off and weave in ends. Block your edges.
