This free pattern is for a Cat Elf Hat to wear for the Holiday Season. This pattern is made using basic crochet stitches as well as Brava yarn from WeCrochet.
Ok, I’m officially obsessed! I love crocheting cat hats. I’ll for sure make more and more. And it looks like I’m not the only one loving the. My last 2 cat patterns, a Witch Cat Hat and a Cat Santa Hat, went viral. I’m thrilled! My kitties are now 12 and 13 years old and need more funny cat hats all year round.
So I’m officially taking requests! Leave a comment below and tell me which cat hat patterns you wanna see next? Maybe some for Valentine’s Day or Easter? Or any other hilarious ones! Let me know and I’ll see which one I can design next.
Of course, not every cat loves accessories on them. I will for sure not force mine and keep the ties loose in case they want to quick it off.
So it’s time to get our kitties ready for Christmas time, too, with a Cat Elf Hat.
Ready to make this one?
Crocheting Hat Patterns for Cats
Just like normal human hats, cats hats have to fit. Some cats are a bit picky about wearing accessories. So please don’t force them to wear them (do I actually have to say that?).
But anyway, I chose to not add ear holes to this hat to make it more Elf Hat-like. My witch cat hat pattern did have ears. But maybe next year I’ll create another Elf Hat that has ear holes. Would you like that?

Crochet the hat ties for the Cat Elf Hat
Do this twice:
Attach the green yarn to the last green row, ch 31, start from 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each ch.
Make sure to have the hat ties across from each other.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Make a Pom Pom for the Cat Elf Hat
Use the red yarn to make the pom-pom
I used a diy cardboard piece (about 2 inches wide) to wrap the red yarn around and then cut it on the top and bottom and then tie the strings up in the middle to make the pom-pom.
Be sure to give your pom a “hair cut” to make it round like a ball.
You can of course also use a tiny pom pom maker like this one.
Now sew the pom-pom to the top of the Cat Elf Hat.
