You can make a crochet dish towel using any stitch you want but if you to make your crochet kitchen towel extra special then you will need to use an extra special stitch. How about one that makes your towel thick and squishy without any gaps?

People like to complain about crochet projects being “holey” but it really depends on the stitch that you use. Some projects you don’t mind if you can see through them, but a kitchen towel needs to be both pretty and practical.

Well, I guess, strictly speaking, a crochet dish towel doesn’t need to be pretty but it certainly doesn’t hurt. And if there is a free pattern for it, then that’s even better!

But there is no arguing that it really ought to be practical and that’s where this crochet dish towel pattern comes in. I really do think this is the absolute best farmhouse crochet hand towel pattern out there and you will soon see why!

The Thickest Crochet Stitch in the World

If you have seen my patterns before, then you might have an inkling about the crochet stitch I am talking about. It’s one of my favorite stitches and I have many other designs that use it like this drawstring backpack and this tri-fold pouch.

Single crochet is the go-to stitch for crochet projects with no holes, but we can do better than that! For the best crochet dish towel, we need a stitch that is luxuriously thick and squishy.

The technique that I am talking about is, of course, the thermal crochet stitch! Long since used pretty much only for pot holders, I saw the potential in this fantastic stitch for so many other exciting crochet projects.

In total, I have made 29 other thermal crochet patterns and 7 tutorials PLUS 13+ videos.

As a matter of fact, my new ebook includes all these thermal crochet patterns, stitches, and tips. Additionally, they organized per category and from beginner to more advanced patterns.

Never done thermal crochet before? Not to worry. Believe it or not, this is actually a beginner-friendly technique and not scary at all. I promise 🙂

I have a whole blog post about how to crochet the thermal stitch, and more specifically how to crochet the half double crochet thermal stitch (which is the stitch we’ll be using to make a cute crochet dish towel today!)

Or you can watch this quick video to learn how to crochet the pattern stitch before attempting the crochet kitchen towel pattern.
