This cute little crochet hook case or pencil bag is the perfect size to hold all your writing utensils or your crochet hook collection. It’s made with the linked double crochet, which forms a sturdy bag with minimal gaps.
It’s day 20 of the Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along (MCAL). Just like with a traditional advent calendar, I’m revealing a new surprise every day! From December 1st through December 24th, I’ll share one free pattern each day, right here on my blog. These quick and easy crochet gift ideas will give you inspiration for your last-minute makes for the holidays.
I’m calling today’s free pattern a pencil case or crochet hook case. And it’s perfect for either of those purposes. It’s roomy enough to hold even ergonomic crochet hooks with thick handles, plus your stitch markers, tape measure, and yarn needles. But there are really limitless possibilities for personal use. You could use it as a storage bag for organizing small items in your craft room or as a desk organizer. It would even make an attractive, reusable way to package small gifts like candies, gum, or lip balms.
This little pouch would be a thoughtful gift for another crocheter along with a nice ergonomic hook. Or make a one-of-a-kind pencil bag for a kid, who can use it to wrangle their pens and pencils when the school season restarts after Christmas vacation. My suggested yarn, Premier Just Yarn Worsted, comes in 22 different colors so you can customize the crochet case to suit the recipient. You could even alternate two or more colors to make a striped pouch.
This cute little pencil pouch uses the linked double crochet stitch, which is a variant of double crochet that eliminates gaps between stitches and creates a dense fabric. It’s an easy stitch to learn for crocheters of any skill level, even beginners. And if you need extra help, you can follow the full video tutorial, which covers the linked double crochet as well as how to attach the zipper and assemble the bag.
