Crochet Organizer Bag with Pockets and Zipper – Free Pattern

This free pattern is for an Organizer Bag with a zipper and standing pockets. This pattern is made using only linked crochet stitches as well as worsted yarn.
Bags are a special category of crochet accessories. You can use them for storage, or simply to style up your outfit. But since you are a crocheter, you likely use them for both. They can be simple, very detailed, or unique.
This Organizer bag is definitely unique in its design and functionality. Once you open the bag you have standing pockets so you can easily reach your storaged items, like hooks, notions, yarn, or even your phone and wallet. That’s pretty cool.
The Organizer Bag was inspired by a quilting bag that uses the flat side pieces of the bag to lay fabric with a small fabric cutting board.
Furthermore, the bag uses linked crochet which makes it very sturdy and prevents any belongings from falling out.
But the Rewind Tape yarn is light and also very sturdy! So win-win! It makes the perfect yarn for this crochet organizer bag pattern.

My new ebooks include all 45 bag crochet patterns and even explain how to add lining step by step. And of course, the ebook also comes with lots of videos.

It doesn’t matter if you have the same row or stitch numbers. Make sure to measurements are the same to make it fit. It will be 17 x 8.5 inches. A general tutorial for Linked Crochet (ldc) is here. I started with the color Marbles. But feel free to pick a different color.
Ch 31
R1: pull up 1 loop each from the 2nd and 3rd ch from the hook, yarn over and pull through 2, yarn over pull through 2 (you just made 1 ldc), for the next ldc, pull up a loop after going through the horizontal bar of the first ldc, then pull up a loop from the next stitch (2 loops on your hook), now finish it as a normal dc. Now continue crocheting 1 ldc per stitch, turn
R2: Ch 2, 1 ldc per stitch, turn
R3-33: Repeat R2
Fasten off and weave in your ends.

R2: Ch 2, 1 ldc dec over the next 4 sts (so 2 decreases), 1 ldc per stitch until you have 4 stitches left, 1 ldc dec over the next 4 sts (so 2 decreases), turn
*Decreases are done like this: Pull up 1 linked loop (like you do for a normal ldc), then go through the front loops of the next 2 stitches, pull up a loop, finish the stitch like a normal dc -> This decreasing technique is the invisible decrease (general video tutorial is here).
R3: Ch 2, 1 ldc dec over the next 2 sts (so 1 decrease), 1 ldc per stitch until you have 2 stitches left, 1 ldc dec over the next 2 sts (so 1 decrease), turn
R4-8: Repeat R3

Sewing the bag pieces together to make the Organizer Bag
First, you will line up the trapezoid pieces parallel on the long side of the bag body. sew them on each side using the mattress stitch (see tutorial here).
Next side the pockets to the center, equal distance apart. Stitch markers help her to make sure everything is equally aligned on each side. The pockets are sewn to the bag body and the trapezoid sides using the mattress stitch.
Next, sew on the jacket zipper (get them here) on each side using black thread (if you want to use a zipper) or buttons (if you prefer to use them instead of a zipper). Finally, add or sew the bag handles equally on the outside of the bag (I used hot glue for this stitch to make it more sturdy). You can even sew and/or use hot glue to make it extra sturdy.
You are now done and can use your very unique Organizer Bag with pockets.
