Free Cute Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern

This is a free cute Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern made with knit-like crochet stitches, as well as super bulky yarn.
Well, bunnies are popular regardless if it’s Easter or not cause they are cute. Now if you make them into baskets then the fun can really begin. And if you make the basket with an extra special surprise it will make every child smile with joy.
This Knit-Like Bunny Basket uses only knit-look crochet stitches to provide either lots of texture or sturdiness to add support. But this bunny is also very special because you can have the ears flop down or pull them up and turn them into basket handles. Just like magic making every child smile and wanting to use it all the time.

Free Written Pattern for the Knit-Like Bunny Basket
Crochet Basket Bottom
This pattern used to be a mystery crochet along. So the pattern was written to keep the mystery “alive”.
Here is a quick video to show you how to a crochet spiral using the knit-look:
Subscribe to my Youtube Channel here:
We’ll be using the hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V to create a knit-like look (a longer video tutorial is here).
Be sure to use a stitch marker as you’ll crochet in continuous rounds.
R1: Make a magic ring and add 10 hdc
R2: 2 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V in each st
R3: *1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V, 2 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V, repeat from * until the end of the round
R4: *1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V in the next 2 sts, then in the next st 2 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V, repeat from * until the end of the round
Crochet the Basket Body
Turn the basket bottom such that you are working in rounds having the “swirl” of the hdc in 3rd loop behind the V on the inside of the basket and the flat side of the bottom on the outside (aka that’s where the basket will sit on).
Be sure to use a stitch marker as you’ll crochet in continuous rounds.
R1: 1 sc in the 3rd loop behind the V of the hdc in the previous stitch, in each st all around
R2-12: 1 wst in each st all around
Learn the Waistcoat Stitch (wst) here. Here is also a shorter video:
Fasten off using the invisible join and weave in your ends.
Crochet Bunny Ears
You’ll be using the HDC in the 3rd loop behind the V again. More details on this stitch watch this short video:
We’ll also be using the invisible decrease (you can use the regular decrease if you prefer as well! Your choice). Here is a quick video for that as well:
Be sure to use a stitch marker as you’ll crochet in continuous rounds.
Make 2 of the following
R1: Make a magic ring and add 8 hdc (8 sts)
R2: *1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V, repeat from *, 1 hdc in 3rd loop behind the V until the end of the round (10 sts)
R3: *1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V, repeat from *, 1 hdc in 3rd loop behind the V until the end of the round (12 sts)
R4: *1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V all around (12 sts)
R5: *1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V in the next 3 sts, 1 hdc inv dec in 3rd loop behind the V, repeat from *, 1 hdc in 3rd loop behind the V until the end of the round (10 sts)
The Inv Dec is the Invisible Decrease (video tutorial is here) and is typically done through the front loops of the 2 stitches you’re decreasing, but in this case, it’s made in the 3rd loop behind the V. So: yarn over, insert your hook through the loops (3rd loop behind the V of the 2 stitches being decreased into 1), yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.
R6: 1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V in the next 3 sts, 1 hdc inv dec in 3rd loop behind the V, 1 hdc in 3rd loop behind the V until the end of the round (9 sts)
R7: 1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V in the next 3 sts, 1 hdc inv dec in 3rd loop behind the V, 1 hdc in 3rd loop behind the V until the end of the round (8 sts)
R8: *1 hdc in the 3rd loop behind the V, 1 hdc inv dec in 3rd loop behind the V, repeat from *, 1 hdc in 3rd loop behind the V until the end of the round (6 sts)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing later.
Crochet Bunny Basket Assembly
Now sew on both bunny ears opposite from each other to the last row of the basket.
Add the bunny eyes (either as a french knot or plastic eyes like me), and sew on the bunny mouth/nose (as a T) using black yarn.
Optionally:
Add 1 button to the top of each of the bunny ears and a loop next to each button. That allows you to connect the bunny ears to turn the standing basket into a basket with handles as the ears. So the loop next to the button would connect to the button on the other ear.
