Afghan motifs are beautiful. And there are so many available that crocheters have a wide variety of patterns to choose from to create a beautiful and unique afghan.
But why do it alone, when you can do it with a group of people together? That is why Tamara created the Moogly CALs she has been hosting for several years having hundreds of crocheters join and make beautiful square blocks to make gorgeous afghans. I recently interviewed Tamara for Nicki’s Crochet Podcast.
My flower square afghan block is the 10th one for 2022 and I have the free pattern as well as a companion video tutorial for you to see each section of the pattern.

Square Pattern Notes
You’ll be crocheting the pattern in rounds with a slip stitch after each round. I used the invisible slip stitch for a cleaner look and transition from round to round.
Follow the color code in the material section to know which color was used for each round (shown as just the letters behind the round numbers).
Increases are written as 2 sts per st, e.g. 2 sc means 1 sc inc.
I do not chain 1 or make a beginning/turning chain. Instead, I skip the chain of 1 for sc and hdc sts and make an alternative turning chain for dc, tr, and taller stitches.
Alternative Turning Chain for DC sts:
Crochet 1 sc, then insert hook into the loop close to the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, you made 2 stacked sc stitches.
Alternative Turning Chain for TR sts:
Crochet 1 sc, *then insert hook into the loop close to the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, repeat 1 time from * to have 3 stacked sc stitches.
