This lacy spa crochet headband with elastic stretches to fit snugly around your head and is perfect to keep your hair back when doing home spa procedures. You’ll want to make them in all different colors!
It’s day 23 of the 2023 Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along (MCAL)! I hope you have found lots of inspiration from this amazing series of projects. What has been your favorite quick crochet gift idea so far? Each day, from December 1st through December 24th, I’m releasing one brand-new pattern for a last-minute Christmas gift, right here on my site. And after today, there will be just one pattern to go. So don’t forget to come back tomorrow to discover the final surprise pattern!
Today’s free crochet pattern, a filet crochet spa headband, would make a great gift for someone who needs some self-care after several busy weeks of holiday prep. During spa time, when you’re doing a facial treatment, there’s no better way to hold back long hair than a soft cotton headband. This particular headband incorporates an elastic hair tie so it it stretches easily over messy buns and fits snugly to your head.
This cosmetic headband would pair nicely with a different spa item, like the face scrubbies and soap saver set featured earlier in the MCAL. You could make a beautiful collection of spa themed crochet items in calming shades of like pale blue and cream. Then, add them both to a nice basket along with other lovely gifts, like a mud mask and some crochet washcloths. You’re sure to put your loved one in a cosmetic-ritual mood.
This pattern is written in five sizes, from toddler to large adult. So if you know the head circumference of your recipient, that can help you make a perfectly-sized headband.
This adorable crochet headband uses almost exclusively double crochets and chains in a simple repeat. It’s a great intro to the filet crochet technique and works up very quickly. Even a beginner crocheter can create this pattern relatively easily. And to help, I’ve included a full video tutorial as well.
Now it’s time to get started!

Now fold the short ends to the center such that they are close to touching. Place your elastic over and fold the part of the last and first row inward such that it wraps around the elastic. You can hold it in place with a safety pin or stitch marker, if you like. Now sew the folded crochet piece together such that it holds the elastic in place. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
