This filet crochet snowflake pillow makes a beautiful addition to your winter home decor. The free pattern will show you how to create a striking snowflake design.
Even though Christmas is over, we still have lots of winter left. If you’re someone who loves to celebrate the whole season and not just the holidays, why not make a gorgeous throw pillow that you can use all winter long? These bold snowflake pillows add a pop of color to your sofa with a pretty snowflake design.
This pillow features an impression of a large snowflake, made using filet crochet. Filet crochet is a simple and rewarding technique that uses just double crochets and chains to form intricate-looking designs without a single color change. Rather, it’s made up of blocks of solid stitches or open spaces, which create lace patterns on a mesh grid. A crocheter of any skill level, even a beginner, should be able to follow this easy pattern.
The first thing you will do is follow the row-by-row instructions to create the front panel, then make an identical panel for the back. Finally, you’ll be sewing the two panels together around a square pillow form. If you want to make the cover removable, you could also leave one side open and add pillow cover buttons. You’ll want to choose buttons that are small enough to fit between the double crochet stitches.
There are lots of other ways you can customize this polar snowflake pillow, too. Once you have completed the pillow, you could use the remainder of the yarn in the second skein to make tassels for the corners of the pillow.
Or you could experiment with hook sizes and yarn type to change the size of the pillow to suit your preference. My sample uses sport-weight yarn but worsted weight yarn and a larger size hook would make a larger pillow. Just make sure you measure and purchase the right size of pillow for your substitute yarn.
Now let’s get started on this beautiful pattern.
