I knew I was not supposed to be quite so excited. I was too old for that. But every chance I got, when I was alone, I checked my Advent Calendar to see whether or not my mom already added a treat for the next morning. The best part, of course, was when my mom bought me one of these pre-filled Advent Calendars and I was able to sneak my chocolate piece early. But that comes with a big drawback. I usually did not have any more candy left on Christmas Eve.
Now, as a grown-up, I sure love giving my kids their little treat in their Advent Calendars – that are not pre-filled. But one thing, I never liked was that they already knew where the next day usually is, because they were either ordered or easy to see.
What about an Advent Calendar that you can modify and change as you wish? What about an Advent Calendar that allows the parents to have as much fun as the children? What about an Advent Calendar that you crocheted on your own?
YES, we need that! We all do!
So, I came up with the idea to crochet a Snowman Advent Calendar that allows you to rearrange the pockets for the candy every day. They are made with magnetic snaps. To make it even more fun, I also added magnetic snaps to the nose, mouth, eyes, and buttons.
Would you like to see how I rearrange them?
Check out my video below where I show you exactly how I do it. Can you imagine doing it yourself?

What you will need to Crochet the Snowman Advent Calendar
In order to crochet this amazing Snowman Advent Calendar, you will need a few materials that you may already have at home. You will have 1.5 weeks to get your materials before Part 1 of this free crochet pattern will be released (see more on that below).

Furthermore, the snowflake pattern will actually include a video tutorial as well, even though the pattern is actually very easy to follow.
So, will you join us in this fun and amazing new crochet along? Now, that you know what you will need, you will, of course, also need to know when to get started. Well, in case you do not want to wait till the free parts of the crochet pattern are being released, I have already created the PDF pattern that you can purchase on Ravelry or Etsy at your convenience.

All of these Snowflakes really come to light with the numbers on the stars and trees. I just love how it all came together and makes Christmas not only romantic but also super fun – literally every day until Christmas.
Instructions:
PART 1 – Snowballs (3 sizes)
I would recommend to cut out the boards for the 3 snowballs plus the hat and the support rectangles after you finished the crocheted pieces as it makes it easier to cut it out for the finished size of your pieces. Simply crochet those items, lay them down on the foam boards (you might need 2 boards for the largest snowball and then glue the pieces together), trace them a bit smaller than the crochet pieces are, and cut them out.
For all the pieces, I am either skipping the turning/beginning chain for sc and hdc, or I replace it with the alternative double crochet (click links to learn why and how to do that).
Use the white (not metallic) yarn for all 3 sizes

Snowflakes (make 24)
Use the white metallic yarn (1 skein is enough for all 24 snowflakes, but make sure that the ends are not cut too long or you will run out of yarn early)
In order to be able to provide you with a video tutorial, I created a separate pattern for you HERE.
PART 3 -Pockets, Scarf and Putting it all together
Pockets (where “treat” is placed in, glued behind the snowflake)
Use azure yarn for 16 pockets, and use blue yarn for 8 pockets (feel free to change the number per color or the colors in general)
1 pocket = 1 circles that are sewn (wip stitch) together ¾ all around
Pattern for 1 circle
R1: Start with a Magic Ring and add 8 sc to the circle, close the circle, sl st to the first st
R2: 2 sc’s in each st, sl st to the first st
R3: 1 sc, 2 sc in the next st, sl st to the first st
Fasten off and weave in the center yarn end. Use the outside yarn end to sew 2 circles together to make a pocket as mentioned above.
Scarf
Use the red yarn
Ch 9
R1: 1 atc in the 2nd ch from the hook (height of dc), 1 dc in each st, turn (8 sts)
R2-60: 1 atc in the first st, 1 dc in each st till the end, turn (8 sts)
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Cut 16x 8 inch red yarn strands
Fold each one in half, use a crochet hook to pull the folded strand thru each of the 8 sts at each end of the scarf, then pull the ends through the loop of the folded strand, pull tight.
Put it all together
I used magnetic snaps to attach the eyes, mouth, nose, buttons, and pockets to the snowman so one can rearrange them like “Mister Potato Head”, but feel free to glue them permanently directly to the snowman as well.
I used hot glue for all the glued areas.
First, fold the parallel ends of a flat magnetic snap (leave the thick magnetic snap for on the side for now) together (using scissors if you prefer) for the nose, eyes, buttons, and mouth. Glue one each to the back of the mouth, eyes, and buttons. For the nose glue on 2 magnetic snaps.
Now attach the thick magnetic snaps to the proper way to the head (for the nose, mouth, and eyes) and the buttons to the medium-sized snowball of the snowman.
Furthermore, also attach 24 thick magnetic snaps randomly to the medium and large snowball (I added 10 on the medium and 14 to the large) for the pockets.
Attach the flat magnetic snaps to one side of each pocket.
Glue the one pocket to center of each snowflake. Next, glue the felted advent calendar numbers to the front center of the snowflakes.
Next, cut out all the foam board pieces as mentioned in the beginning. Glue the foam board parts to their corresponding crochet parts (3 snowballs and the hat).
Now, cut out 3 rectangle foam parts (about 3 inches x 8-10 inches) and glue those to the back of the foam boards to collect the boards with each other (large snowball to the medium one, medium to the small one and the small one to the hat). Feel free to overlay the hat to the head to make it look more natural.
Next, I used magnetic snaps to attach the arms (branches with glued on sticks as fingers) to the snowman so I can take them off later for storage.
Finally, I glued on a loop of white pipe cleaners (3 twisted) to the top of the hat such that I can hang it up.
And last, but not least, you can now add the nose, eyes, mouth, buttons and pockets and the scarf (loosely around the neck) to the snowman in the order you wish and hang up the snowman in your home.
You are now finally done! YAY! I hope you like this pattern. It sure was fun seeing everyone work on the parts together.
If you love this crochet pattern as much as I do, please use the social media share buttons above or below and share this pattern link with the world and your friends. They and I will thank you! I promise!

Nicki, I can’t find the numbers?? Were they with Christmas????Even the associates couldn’t find them! HELP
Nicole Riley
I am so sorry. I got mine about 2 months ago and it was in the Christmas Craft area in my local Hobby Lobby where they had lots of little Christmas stickers and home decor (it was not in an aisle). They also had wooden numbers which are called Christmas Craft Clothespins. Sadly, they don’t have them online otherwise I would send you a link to it. But here are some cute ones from Amazon (affiliate): https://amzn.to/2DofDh4
